The reasons for losing weight vary from one person to the next. You can try all sorts of things to lose weight and get to your ideal weight. You’ve probably come across at least a few fad diets. They all promise quick weight loss. As to the Paleo diet being a fad diet or not, the jury is still out on that. Th Paleo diet’s core principle is rather obvious. In this diet, you’ll be eating foods eaten by the early humans who existed during the Paleolithic era. The people who put the diet together are pretty off on their facts, but the basic tenets of the diet aren’t necessarily terrible. In this article, we’ll share basic information on the Paleo diet.

 

Technically, the Paleo diet was invented by Walter L. Voegtlin who is a gastroenterologist. In 1975, The Stone Age Diet was published by Voegtlin. In this book he argued that humans are carnivorous animals. According to Voegtlin, early man, starting from the Paleolithic era, had a diet that consisted mostly of meat. In the original diet, according to Voegtlin, early man ate mostly protein and fat, and very little carbohydrates. He based his findings on his own medical treatment of different dietary ailments like Crohn’s Disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, etc. It’s worth mentioning that Voegtlin has no archaeology or history background. The Paleo diet has several variants. The CrossFit diet is one version. Then there’s also the Wai diet and Instincto diet. Are you a vegan or vegetarian? You can use the Paleo diet because it has non-meat alternatives. If you don’t like the Paleo diet version you’re on, it’s easy to switch to another version of the diet. However, this is a downside as well because picking a Paleo diet version can get pretty confusing. How do you figure out which one is best for you? What’s the length of time you need to be on one version until you determine it’s not the one for you and you switch to a different one?

 

While most diets would restrict meal portion sizes, the Paleo diet has a different approach. You can decide your own portion sizes based on how you are using the diet. So if you’re following the Paleo diet to lose weight, you’d obviously have to eat smaller portions. However, if you’re on the Paleo diet as an athlete, your portion sizes would be bigger.
